Ackee & Saltfish Recipe

This is a simple and easy breakfast recipe. Ingredients listed below.

  • 1/2 pound boneless salted codfish (saltfish)

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil.

  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

  • 1 sprig fresh thyme

  • 2 onions sliced

  • 1 cup sliced bell peppers

  • 1/4 scotch bonnet pepper finely chopped (without seeds)

  • 1 can ackee drained


  1. Wash of codfish in tap water then soak in hot water for 1 hour. Drain then replace with a new batch of hot water for another hour.

  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and thyme and cook for 30 seconds. Add peppers, scallions onions and cook for around 5 minutes.

    Stir as necessary. Add saltfish to the pot and cook for approximately 5 minutes. Add ackee and black pepper then simmer for another 2-3 minutes

    Serve.
